Looking for a healthier alternative to regular rice idli? Give jowar idli a try! Jowar idli is a type of idli made with jowar flour instead of rice flour.
It is a healthier alternative to traditional idlis as it is high in fiber and protein. Jowar idlis are also vegan and gluten-free. They can be made in the same way as regular idlis, by steaming them in idli moulds.
- Preparation time- 10 minutes (soaking time 6-8 hours)
- Cooking time- 10 minutes
- Total time- 20 minutes
- Servings- 15 people
Ingredients-
- Jowar Flour- 2 cups
- White, round urad dal – 1/2 cup
- Red Poha / Pressed red rice- 1/2 cup
- Fenugreek seeds – 1/2 tsp
- Salt- as needed
- Water- as needed or required for kneading
Procedure-
- Thoroughly wash Jowar and Poha.
- Soak black urad dal and methi seeds together in a bowl for 2 hours.
- Grind Urad Dal to form a smooth paste, then grind Jowar. Add to Urad dal batter.
- Mix well. Let the batter sit overnight so that fermentation can occur.
- Add salt to the mixture.
- Place an oiled idli plate inside and steam for 12-15 minutes. Let it cool.
